A Message From the PresidentDear Neighbor,
Does this month’s photo disgust you? I hope so, because we need all the help we can recruit this year to complete a dramatic clean up of our lovely town. You may not want to hear it but whether you left it there or not, it has become the responsibility of us all to keep our town clean. That’s just the way it is even though it does not follow the concept of responsibility we all should be teaching our children. “You dropped it ,you pick it up” doesn’t pertain to litter. I wish it did. Calls have been made to the town and a letter sent with photos to the state. We’re hoping to obtain cooperation from their staff for a cleanup at least along Route 25A and Miller Place Yaphank Road. Our third annual town wide clean-up is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 13th. We’ll be sharing more information soon and hope you’ll consider saving a few hours that morning to help out. Kathy Rousseau Route 25A between Sylvan & Pipe Stave Planning/Zoning Jim Moran and Michael Guido recently held an initial meeting with the developers of what is currently being called Miller Place Plaza. This is the 6 acre property to the west of Ging’s nursery. Under consideration are two restaurants and a bank, but nothing specific as yet. The property is zoned for this type of plan, and the fact that the Civic was asked to meet so early in the process speaks well for the developers. As always we will keep you informed as we learn of progress. Diagnostic Lab Open for Spring As you prepare your property for the warm weather, you may face challenges to rid the lawn and garden of pests that threaten your hard work. Cornell’s Insect and Plant Diagnostic Lab at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum on Montauk Highway in Oakdale will be open for the season Beginning March 16. Bring in soil samples to be tested for pH; have plant problems diagnosed; have insect and tick specimens identified. Free soil pH test kits(one per household) are being offered for the month of April. Samples may be dropped off Tuesdays through Fridays between 8:30and 4;30. A horticulture hotline is available Tuesdays through Fridays from 9:00am to 4:00 pm. Echo Pharmacy Medical & Surgical Supplies Echo Pharmacy has further enhanced their services to the community with the expansion of Medical and Surgical supplies in an almost adjacent store. They offer customers a huge variety of products/supplies such as allergy care, diabetes care, wheelchairs, surgical stockings, a mastectomy boutique, Physical Therapy equipment, wound care and shoes for special needs. They have a private fitting room with fitter hours by appointment. Their staff consists of a Board Certified/Registered Orthotic Fitter, Mastectomy Consultant, Certified Surgical Sock Fitters, and a Certified Diabetic Educator. I can personally attest to the professionalism and courtesy of Brian, Marcy and their wonderful staff. Stop by and see the new store, to the left of the Pharmacy, or call 476-8230.
